BUS 110 Intro to Business

This course provides students with an overview of business in an increasingly global society serving as an introduction to business terminology, concepts, environments, systems, strategies, and current issues. Topics include an overview of the business environment, business ethics, entrepreneurship and global business, management, marketing, production, information systems, and financial elements of business. The course provides a solid business foundation for more detailed and higher-level study in subsequent courses.

BUS 115 Office Systems

This course provides the student with an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Emphasis is placed on applications in a business environment and on reports used to support decision-making.

BUS 126 Intro to Small Business and Management Techniques

This course provides the basic principles of operating a small business with a focus on management techniques. Topics include buying, pricing, promotions, location decisions, and planning as well as coverage of globalization, ethics, diversity, customer service, and innovation from a managerial perspective. Students will learn the importance of entrepreneurship and create a sound business plan.

This course will give students a strong foundation in contemporary finance to make financial decisions in the business environment. Throughout the course students will see how financial topics clearly connect to students' personal finance decisions. Topics include: Time Value of Money, Risk and Return, Financial Planning & Control.

MU 155 Introduction to Entertainment & Media Business

This course is designed to introduce the overall business structures of various types of music businesses highlighting those areas where music and business intersect. The music industry is comprised of various players that influence the music production and live event industries. It is important for any individual to understand all of the different components that impact this industry. Topics include: licensing and publishing, the vocabulary and terminology of the music industry, copyright collectives, performance rights organizations, music business deal structures, and the roles that a record producer, music publisher, booking agent, promoter, and tour manager play with in the industry.

MU 161 Media & Entertainment Law

In this course students will be introduced to Media & Entertainment Law and up to date legal issues in the field. The course will cover media and entertainment law ethics issues, how to make better ethical choices, how to guide ethical considerations, and how to potentially correct unethical issues. Other topics include: the Constitution and its interpretation, copyrights and marks, entertainment law, advertising and the media, the media and cyberspace.

MU 162 Entertainment Marketing

Students will examine the entertainment industry and how to reach the target market in today's competitive marketplace. They will learn the entertainment marketing basics, substantial players in the industry, and how to reach their target market through print, radio, TV and music. This course will also cover how social media can be used as a marketing tool with the most productive marketing tactics for each type of major social media platform examined in depth.

MU 163 Intro to Electronic Media

This course provides students the essentials for interacting with electronic media. The most current media forms and the functions of those forms as they relate to advertising, promotional, regulatory, ethical and global issues will be covered. It will also examine the different forms of electronic media and electronic media functions.

The Media Now course encourages students to think critically about the media and its effects on culture by providing them with a thorough understanding of how media technologies develop, operate, converge, and affect society. It will develop students' media literacy skills to prepare them for their encounters in the expanding fields of the Internet, interactive media, and traditional media industries. This course will also give a comprehensive introduction to today's global media environment and ongoing developments in technology, culture, and critical theory that continue to transform this rapidly evolving industry.

MU 170 Professional Communication in the Entertainment Industry

This course will prepare students to communicate, both written and orally, in the entertainment industry. Students will gain the confidence in the content of the message and their ability to convey it effectively through practice. Topics include: audience analysis, personal image, presentation strategies and visual presentation design.

MU 171 Artist Development

In this course students will learn how to find artists and develop their skills to help make them successful. They will learn how to develop an artist's appearance, attitude and networking skills. Project management, budgeting, EPK's and finding avenues to gain capital will also be explored. This class will also demonstrate how to put together a master plan for an Artist's career both long term and record to record.

In this course students learn about the media and how to act being in front of a camera or in an interview. Students will learn how to prepare and control interview. Students will be exposed to live interviews as well as prepared interviews. The goal of this course is media awareness and how to deal in common situations that come up when dealing with the media.

MU 200 Marketing, Promotion & Publicity in the Entertainment Industry

This course focuses on familiarizing students with promoting entertainment products via retail products and packages, the internet & web-based technology and grass roots marketing. The course will also cover artist & tour publicity, event planning, preparation for press interviews and the different types of publicity. Students will work on hands-on projects throughout the course including the completion of a marketing plan.

MU 201 Talent & Event Management

In this course students will gain the knowledge to effectively manage events from start to finish and the role they will play with managing artists, bands and other talent. The student will develop an understanding of planning, designing, marketing/promoting and executing an event from start to finish. The course will also cover building the relationship between the manager and talent, planning and launching a career and how to maintain/control their career. Students will learn from industry professionals and real world case studies.

MU 202 Entertainment & Media Business Capstone

Students will demonstrate the knowledge and skills learned over the course of this program. The students will be required to complete a project using both outside and school resources. Students will choose an artist/ band/entertainer that they would like to manage, create all promotional/advertising material for the artist/ band/entertainer and an event that they will be performing at. All documentation will need to be included like: marketing plan, financial information, etc.

MU 204 Contracts and Publishing

In this course students will be introduced to all types of entertainment contracts and give the student a firm understanding of music publishing. This course will help students to decipher the ins and outs of most music contracts including record contracts; production deals; publishing deals and 360 deals.

In this course students will learn the art and craft of songwriting. Students will learn about structure and style, lyric writing, melody and all that goes into creating songs. This class culminates in a performance of all songs that the students write during the class.

MU 210 Applied Voice "Ready- Set- Go"

MU 210 Applied Voice "Ready- Set- Go" (Elective)

This class is all about singing. Students will have a weekly private voice lesson as well as classes that prepare them for all aspects of Performing. Ready will teach a student about the mechanics of their voice and how the instrument operates. Set further teaches the student about why they are singing each song giving them the ability to translate a song emotionally. Go will show the student how to perform and sing at the same time while maintaining their breath control and vocal technique.

Students will learn videography from shot to edit. This course will teach students about composition of a shot from proper lighting to storyboards. Students will also learn about video editing how and what to edit in or out of their shots. This class will prepare students with the ability to film and edit with confidence.

MU 151 Recording I

MU 151 Recording I (Elective)

The objective of this course is designed to clarify all the individual rolls and duties of those involved in record production and in a professional recording studio environment. This course will give the student an understanding of how the recording industry has moved towards a more individual approach to recording. In doing so, the student will have the basic knowledge for the rest of the classes. Students will also learn about, microphones, effects processors, monitoring systems, studio acoustics and how to run a recording session. Studio design is also discussed, along with studio operating principles and the mechanics of the studio environment.

MU 152 Beatology

This course is designed to provide the student with an understanding of record production and the role that it plays in popular music. Students will learn about the role of a record producer in popular music. Students are introduced to the history of the MIDI concept, its principles and theory, and MIDI production techniques and how it relates to software based production. They are also introduced to MIDI control, troubleshooting, and the design of MIDI systems. Students will learn how MIDI is used in modern productions as well as gain an understanding of the FL Studio program. This class is also an in-depth study of how to construct a beat from inception to a final song.

MU 153 Critical Listening

This course focuses on developing critical listening skills with particular emphasis on engineering analysis. Topics include psychoacoustics of various audio environments, critical listening and the identification of engineering techniques such as balance, panning, EQ, reverb, compression, delay, and time-based effects, instrument identification and song structure and terminology. Students will build their critical listening skills using recorded music from studio sessions, live concert material, and audio postproduction mixes from a variety of mixing techniques and producers.

This psychology course is provides a foundation to understand human behavior. Course covers theories and concepts including: scope of psychology, biological foundations and the brain, sensation, perception, motivation, personality, learning/memory, emotion, states of consciousness, personality theories, cognition, life-span development, and applied psychology.

This introductory sociology course explores sociological processes that underlie everyday life. The course focuses on globalization, cultural diversity, critical thinking, new technology and the growing influence of mass media.

GE 130 History of Music in America

The History of Music in America course will provide an in-depth look at the evolution of popular music from the mid-19th century to the present. Throughout the course, students will learn to highlight connections, contrasts, and patterns of influence among artists, styles, and eras through discussions and listening to examples of music from different genres.

GE 131 History of African-American Music

This course introduces students to the progression of African-American music from its African origin to the present day place in popular music. Topics include Music forms before 1900's work songs; spirituals; chants and shouts; Blues; Ragtime and Jazz; 20th century African-American Music from Opera; Soul to Hip Hop and Rock and Roll.

GE 132 World Music Tour

This course will take the student on a tour of World Music. Students will learn about how music differs from culture to culture. Students will be exposed to all types of music and the instruments that play them.

Students in this course will learn the writing process of fiction, poetry and drama. It will explore subjects such as theme, setting, characters, plot, point of view, tone, style, description, dialogue, thoughts, time, images, and sounds.

In this course gain an introduction and reading, understanding & creating poetry. Students will learn what poetry is, how to read poetry, figurative language, rhythm, meter & pattern.

GE 135 Logic

This course covers the fundamentals of logical thinking and logic theory. Course topics include logic and truth, inference, logical and conditional operators, truth tables, natural deduction, and inductive analysis.

Business Management Degree


This program is designed to prepare students to function in a wide range of positions requiring the skills of persuasive communication. Students will be introduced to advertising, public relations, management, marketing and sales in the entertainment industry. Graduates of this program will obtain skills to acquire entry level employment in advertising, promotions and talent agency and other entertainment related positions.

Additionally, this program provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary for advancement to management positions. The program consists of 80 weeks, 93.5 Quarter Credit Hours of theory and associated labs along with 13.5 Quarter Credit Hours of General Education instruction. Instruction is designed for entry every 10 weeks.
